Broken Chair is a monumental sculpture in wood by the Swiss artist Daniel Berset, constructed by the carpenter Louis Genève.
Broken Chair is constructed of 5.5 tons of wood and is 12 metres (39 feet) high.
It represents a giant chair with a broken leg and stands on the Place des Nations, in Geneva. It symbolises opposition to land mines and cluster bombs, and acts as a reminder to politicians visiting Geneva.

Dear Uncle:
Man, that fourth leg looks like it’s been blown off! By a land mine or cluster bomb or something! And I guess that’s an appropriate statement to make via sculpture in a place like Geneva.
Kind regards,
Thomas Masun

Although Thomas wins most of the individual online quizzes (he was the QFI Chennai Super King last week), he hates “live” individual quizzes like Mastermind or the Mastermind round in the Landmark quizzes. So symbolically, he made a broken chair similar to that seen in the pic as his entry for his annual school day exhibition in 1996 to make statement that he will never sit on the mastermind chair. At that time there was a Swiss delegation belonging to the anti-landmines group visiting his school and they were impressed by his exhibit. Upon knowing the cause they supported,Thomas told them when he had won a cycle in Hanoi(please see my answer to the Hanoi Hilton question), he rode it to neighboring Cambodia where he had seen a number of people who had been maimed by landmines. The delegation was impressed by our wunderkid and decided that they would use his model as inspiration for a project that there were coming up with in Geneva. Otherwise why on earth would you have a Broken Chair to represent Anti-landmine sentiments.

Beautiful visual – In Geneva, this symbolises opposition to land mines and cluster bombs which leaves its victims, like the chair in the picture, useless.
